Claire V. Wiseman, Ph.D.
Claire V. Wiseman, Ph.D. is a clinical psychologist who has dedicated her career to the understanding and prevention of eating disorders. She received her doctoral degree from The American University and went on to complete her training at Yale University where she was a Post-Doc at the Yale Center for Eating and Weight Disorders. Prior to joining this practice she spent four years on the faculty at the Cornell University Medical School where she was the chief psychologist on the in-patient eating disorders unit. While at Cornell, she developed a school based curriculum entitled Building Better Bodies: A curriculum Based Program to Prevent Eating Disorders, which has been successful in the U.S and Europe in reducing known risk factors for eating disorders. After leaving Cornell she joined the faculty at Trinity College where she taught undergraduates and conducted research on eating disorders. At present, she is on the faculty at Yale School of Medicine. She has authored numerous scientific papers and chapters concerning eating disorders and is a Fellow in the Academy of Eating disorders and a member of the Eating Disorder Research society. She has served on the governing Board of Council for Women’s Health Research at Yale since its inception and is a member of the Board of Governors of the We are Family Foundation. Dr. Wiseman is an avid sailor and has been competing nationally and internationally since she was a teen. Dr. Wiseman is currently being trained as an animal assisted therapist and her Labrador, “Phoebe”, is her animal assistant in the practice.
